Don?t worry, I?ll wont be showing pictures of the bathing suit, or me in the suit for that matter.

We?re leaving for a trip to Mexico in a few weeks, and finally decided to break down and buy a new camera to avoid getting annoyed with the out of focus and slow camera that I have. An additional bonus is that now I can actually take decent pictures of my knitting! Or rather, that?s the main bonus for me. Below are a few shots I took of the Charade sock I?m currently working on. I took this in the living room, which has pretty poor lighting, so I?m happy to see that the pattern is actually visible. I can?t wait to take pictures in good lighting - especially with a completed project.

The camera is an Olympus FE-370. So far, I?m very impresed. It was the only camera (we found) in this price range to have the 5x optical zoom instead of just 3, which I think will mean much better knitting pictures. There are a variety of pre-set ?scenes? such as sport, auction (not sure what that means), night, beach, etc, which are great for someone like me who doesn?t know that much about taking photos and who doesn?t want to muck around with the setting. There?s also an auto function to choose the settings based on where you are. My favorite aspect so far is the image stabilization, something I had a real problem with using my old camera. I rarely got very clear pictures unless in very bright light. There is even a setting called the ?smile shot? where the camera takes a picture when the subject you are focused on smiles. I?ve only played around with it a bit, but it does seem to recognize actual smiles. I tried just moving my hand in front of the lens to see if it was movement based and even stickin my tongue out. It only took the picture when I smiled.

Anyway, pictures are below. I?m sure there will be more to come.

Oh, and yes, I also did find a bathing suit today for Mexico. I was suprised to be able to find one at Target. It?s a bathing suit, of course, so it?s never going to be very flattering, but it does as well as it can.
