What a cracker of a race - a really good Aston/Corvette/Maserati battle in GT1, right to the chequered flag with plenty of surprises. Awful weather - poor visibility and lots of water on track - with some new teams and drivers breaking through. Great scraps all through the field, some good stuff in GT2 (at least between the Ferraris!) as well, and all in all a fine advertisement for sports car racing.

With two hour races (other than the Spa 24 Hours) FIA GT is barely 'endurance', but it does mean you're balls to the wall from lights to flag, still with an element of strategy.

I hope this will establish a good audience for ITV4 - good coverage and commentary (and a good audio mix that let you hear the cars), fantastic cars and real racing.

GT1 and overall:

1: Ryan Sharp/Karl Wendlinger, JetAlliance Aston Martin DBR9
2: Michael Bartels/Andrea Bertolini, Vitaphone Maserati MC12
3: Philipp Peter/Allan Simonsen, GigaWave Aston Martin DBR9

The 'Vettes were running away with it for the first two-thirds of the race, as the track dried out the Astons started to prevail and then twards the end of the race, after a short safety car period Bartels had dragged the big old Maserati onto the tail of the leading battle - for a few laps it could've gone three ways, but Sharp blasted past Peter and kept it all under control. Wonderful stuff.
