Its been nearly a month now working and I have noticed there are some cars which I can only describe as...generic cars. Cars which don't really have true faults to them but crucially have nothing thats actually good about them. Bland essentially. I actually thought Toyota was the king of bland, it seems only the Corolla and Camry cars are this way since I do like the Yaris more than either.

Top 5 most bland cars I've driven:

1) Hyundai Elantra(2007+):
I've never actually come across a car that just glows in the aura of blandness. If I thought generic car, normally the Corolla comes to mind...but this Elantra looks almost like a Corolla and its actually more bland to drive, hell it even has the same bonging noise Toyota uses. Corolla-copy? almost. The interior...plain can't really describe it any other way. The drive as I said pretty boring. The engine, not that quiet yet not that loud. Its not that slow...yet its not that fast. Its just so average...hard to love it.

2) Hyundai Elantra(2001-2006):
The newer Elantra is more refined than the old one. Yet again this car doesn't have anything special. Nothing I can say that was actually good. The only real bad thing I can say is its bonging noise is extremely annoying, if I had a gun I'd have shot the dash.

3) Hyundai Sonata(2006+):
This is a little bit better than the Elantras since it does have more power to play with. I can't exactly say its better than a Camry even though its scarily similar in quite a few ways. Its also certainly better than the crappy Kia Magentis. It seems to suffer from the same problems as the Elantras, I just couldn't find anything special about this car. Nothing exciting...as I said, I quite liked the Mazda6 and I'd take that any day over this since its less boring, more unique looking and quite fun.

4) Buick Lucerne:
For a car thats a class above the Allure, I found this car to be quite boring to drive. The interior is somewhat nicer than the previous 3 cars but can it beat a Toyota Avalon...no, not even the older one, the new Ford Taurus is also far better. To drive...it felt like GM's minivans, as if this car was made from someone with arthritis since the wheel had zero feel basically you can steer with your pinky. There is no way I could have fun driving this car especially if it felt similar to driving a minivan. Its not a terrible car, in fact this might be a good car...if your 90+ years old.

5) Toyota Corolla:
Sorry Toyota, I knew exactly what I was expecting when I drove a Corolla. It wasn't fun and it certainly wasn't interesting. The interior is still better than the Hyundais but the drive...well its a tad better than the Hyundais but Toyota did so much better with the Yaris. Power? Well between this and the Yaris I really didn't notice a thing.

One thing to keep in mind, these are alright cars. My only issue is, they're so boring and generic, there has to be something better and there are plenty of cars better.

I guess I should update the worst list and change a few spots and increase it to 10 since I've now driven a few more bad cars.

1) Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Avenger:
I still stand by this as one of the worst cars I've driven.

2) Dodge Caliber:
I also stand by this rating.

3) Dodge Nitro:
This is a new one, like all Chryslers the interior is stupidly designed. Its not comfortable for someone 5'4 and possibly smaller. The interior feels way too big inside, its really odd driving this thing in a cramped parking lot. The drive like all Chryslers you could tell that they couldn't handle properly and the power wasn't all that great.

4) Kia Spectra:
I just felt the Dodge Nitro was worse, this is still pretty bad. The only thing I have to add is, some of our Spectras have had reliability problems.

5) Kia Rio:
This car felt almost exactly like the Spectra, in fact it just seems like the Spectra is just a bigger Rio. It was a little bit better at handling than the Spectra and it is of course cheaper. The stereo here is pretty crappy and not friendly to someone with big fingers since the stereo is just so small. Still its not very good and thus its just behind the Spectra.

6) Dodge Magnum 2.7 V6:
Since I rated the Spectra above this, the Rio naturally beats the Magnum. I still can't get over the fact that this car is so slow and likely slower than everything above it in this list. As I say, the stupidly designed Chrysler interior doesn't help

7) Dodge Caravan (2001-2007):
The older Dodge Caravan was not a very good car to drive. There is one thing I can say that its better than its successor at, interior design.

8) Dodge Caravan (2008+):
The new Dodge Caravan is a bit better than the old one in almost every way except for a few things it would have been #6 on the old list. The person who approves the interior at Chrysler should be fired, every single damn Chrysler I've been in had stupid controls, they're never in the same place and sometimes the controls just go missing. I still don't know how to move the mirrors since I still can't find the damn controls. Some of the armrests are poorly placed making some seats uncomfortable. The plastic front of this new Caravan seems suspect to me as well, whenever you push it with a broom its so flexible its like jell-o. This is a brand new Chrysler product and theres some serious flaws in it, can you blame me if I'm skeptical of Chrysler's turn around?

9) Kia Magentis (2006+):
Another Kia and if you did read my thoughts about Kias you can guess that this one also didn't do so well. I will say this is one of the better Kias but not by much. Like before this car you can just feel the cheapness inside despite it being well equipped. The drive is not fun, pretty boring. Its somewhat loud for a car supposed to be comfortable. A lot of GM cars around this size are much better, more fun and some of them are quiet since they rev mostly at 1000-2000 rpms. The Mazda could just laugh at Kia's attempt.

10) Pontiac Grand Prix(2004-2008):
This was around #7 on the last list and thus wasn't listed. The electronic seat on this car is not brilliant, its either too high up or way too low down. Its very hard to get a proper seat setting on this car. The car's handling is quite bad, and the interior is not very pleasant to be inside of. Many of our customers complain that this car is a bit of a pig, many of my co-workers say the same thing. Unlike many of the cars above, this does have a very good piece. The engine is surprisingly good, if you have a lead foot this car does produce wheel spin. Its reasonably powerful and quite smooth, nobody denies that the engine in this car is good. Sadly thats all there is from keeping a mostly bad car from being very very bad.
