Since most of this journal has since become about me and my old Cressida I started wondering because of how much I love this car what would have happened if I said yes to scrap it. I know what the "replacement" car would have been, my mom's choice of car because I have no say. A 2006 Toyota Corolla LE. So I started looking at how much gain or loss I would suffer if I said yes to this change.

For the Cressida

Positives: Passenger capacity, legroom, less drag due to lower height, Independent rear suspension, 2 extra cylinders, extra 1.0L of displacement, extra 30 hp, extra 43 lb.ft of torque, limited slip differential, RWD, the digital dash, extra length, 20 L of extra fuel capacity, all disc brakes, no more depreciation, comfortable durable sofa seats, fuel economy still comparable to today's standards.

Negatives: A heat sponge during humid weather because its brown, parts take a long time to get, unknown whether the 20-21 year old factory parts are still strong enough, needs bodywork.

For the Corolla

Positives: ABS, Airbags, crash safety, 500 lbs lighter, CD player, better gas mileage, key-less entry, cup holders, sunroof(option my dad sadly didn't select), rear seat heater ducts, 3 year warranty on most parts.

Negatives: FWD, drum brakes!, a live rear axle, terrible body roll, steering devoid of feel, very anonymous styling, cheaper seat material, depreciation, higher insurance.

Anything that wasn't mentioned is mainly things both cars either have or don't have.

As far as I can see the Corolla's only advantages are minor can do without convenience items, better fuel economy and more modern crash safety standards. Outside of that and the negatives of the Cressida, the Cressida is actually a much much better car even in one safety front...braking which helps prevent a crash in the first place. The depreciation on the Corolla will lose $5000 of value in 2 years along with higher insurance due to the people who drive them, so its actually wasting more money than the Cressida by doing nothing. Repairing the engine in the Cressida was near $4800 not including a tip for excellent quick(2 weeks only!), work. Insurance is cheap on the car because it doesn't have much worth plus the drivers records on the car are very good. I didn't like the idea of downgrading in the beginning and now looking into it further I would have lost a lot more than I was expecting.
