I went shopping today for a new car. Ended up with a barely used Honda Fit. Only 11k miles on it and it's a 2007 model, which is completely unchanged from the 2008 models. I paid more than I wanted, but I didn't have time to wait for one, and I couldn't just buy a used Civic from another person because I had to get financing. Essentially I ended up paying about what I expected to pay for a new one, but since it's only one year old it still has the original factory warranty, and then another dealer warranty on top of that, so it's in warranty for even longer than one I bought new.

It's way quieter than my old corolla, probably because it's 9 years newer and doesn't have any damage to the body to screw up the aerodynamics. The sound system is great, no static in the speakers. The biggest complaint is my insurance skyrocketed to $800 / 6 months from $300 / months, but that's because I also went from state minimum liability to comprehensive with a $500 deductible. And my insurance was coming due on July 16th anyway. Oh well, it's comforting to know that if I do get into an accident, I won't end up with a loan to finish paying off and no car.

I really like the hatchback design, it looks funky from the outside and will take some getting used to, but I can put my rear seats completely flat into the floor and suddenly have about 4x the carrying capacity of ANY 4 door sedan.

As a side note, it should get about 35 MPG since I do mostly highway driving, maybe 40 MPG if I drive carefully. That beats the 15-16 MPG on the Jeep Liberty I was using by a landslide.

Also, my desktop got infected by some trojans/spyware, so I re-formatted and decided to try Vista again, it's going much better this time, because of SP1 maybe? I don't know, but I'm fairly happy with it now, it's not perfect, and you do have to have 2 GB of RAM minimum, but it does work. I'm even running the 64 bit version, so I could dump the max 8GB of RAM into my motherboard and not have any problems, but it's not worth doing that since my RAM is still DDR, not DDR2, so I'll just leave it at 2 GB until I can afford to replace my motherboard and CPU at the same time. Not like I'm playing any games that require more right now anyway.
