I had a similar feeling this weekend... Saturday morning we were going to pack up the kids and drive down to Kitty Hawk NC to visit my parents. I had recently gotten a "new" car ('85 Olds, but in primo condition with low mileage) that is much more roomy and comfy than Martha's new Kia wagon, and we decided to take that down. The only catch was that I needed to install the kids' car seats in the back. I quickly realized that the back seat of the Olds wasn't nearly as kid-seat friendly as the Kia and they didn't install the same way. I looked over the Olds owner manual for any ideas to no avail. The seats instructions have long since been thrown away since I knew how to install them in the Kia and my old car.

In despair I went to break the news to Martha that we'd have to take the Kia instead (something she really didn't want to do for various reasons). I couldn't get the seats installed. Expecting anger and resignation, she instead just looked at me and said "figure it out."

Walking back out to the car I did. Just like that. There's a belt clip for each seat that I use to lock in the seatbelt together with the shoulder harness in the Kia that I ended up using to basically double over the seatbelt, locking it into a shorter length that would hold the seats secure. I'm not particularly "handy" with mechanical things-- other guys probably would have thought of this more quickly-- but I certainly felt clever for the revelation, particularly since it worked so well lol!
