Here is something you may not know: when you drive a Jeep, you become part of a exclusive club. Well, it's not that exclusive and it seemed to only happen to me when I lived in California. People driving Jeeps would honk at to other people driving Jeeps. No, for real. I have since moved from there and no long get waved to, but I was a big thing in Cali.

Some people could careless if they are in the club, they like the uniqueness of these American classics. They became a huge part of the military during the Second World War and became a huge favorite of the G.I.s when they came home. 70 years later, Chrysler is still pumping the Jeep brand and they are popular as ever. Here is a look at the 2010 line-up:

Chrysler's 2010 Commander
The Commander with the big V8 engine is going to come in at 13 city and 19 on the highway. The more efficient V6 gets a respectable 15/20.

2010 Chrysler Jeep Compass
All Jeep Compass models come with a 4 cylinder engine. The 5 speed MT model has a rating of 23 city and 28 on the highway. The 5 speed AT gets 21/25.

Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 6 cylinder automatic model is rated at 16/21. There are two V8 option on the Grand Cherokee: one has MDS that shuts down 4 cylinders when you don't need them to get you 13/19 and the big HEMI version that gets you a not so great 11/16.

The 2010 Chrysler Jeep Liberty
The EPA rates the Jeep Liberty's only engine option at 16/22.

The 2010 Chrysler Jeep Patriot
2L Engine 23/27 5 speed MT 23/28 5 speed AT 21/25

The 2010 Chrysler Jeep Wrangler
This Jeep comes in a 6 cylinder only. Whether you get the automatic or standard transmission, the EPA rates this vehicles at 15/19.

The 2010 Chrysler Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
15/20

Any ideas for getting more efficient gas mileage for your Jeep:

a) If you drive in 4WD unnecessarily, it will not be good for you fuel rating. Try to drive your vehicle in 2WD as much as possible.

b) A 4cylinder is going to get better fuel economy than a V6 and both will do better than a V8. Unless you need the power for towing or something like that, stick with the smaller engine if you are worried about fuel economy.

c) Try not running the air in your Jeep. You have probably heard this, but he air conditioning is about ass big a gas sucker that you have in your Jeep. If you can go without it, it may save you a few bucks.

Listen, Jeeps are cool and fun to drive, but they can have a bit of a rough rid and are really not that great in the fuel efficiency department. If you are looking for massive gas mileage you may want to consider a hybrid or maybe even a sedan. Keep your Jeep as a second car.
